Conditions are expected to be excellent for the 48th Canadian Ski Marathon on February 8 and 9. The marathon, which runs 160 kilometres through the rolling hills of the Quebec side of the Ottawa River Valley, usually draws about 2,000 skiers.
Plenty of snow has fallen in the past three weeks providing a good base for the skiers and the route from Gatineau (Buckingham) to Montebello and then Lachute is ready and groomed.
The marathon, which includes five sections each day, stops at Montebello on Saturday and resumes on Sunday for the second half to Lachute. Half the skiers are expected to do the full 160 kilometres while the rest will do one or more sections each day.
