Vélo-Québec’s Grand Tour Desjardins cycling event heads for Niagara wine country August 2-8

Cyclists are known to work up a big thirst during a long hot day in the saddle. And the 2,000 or so who will take part in Vélo-Québec’s annual Grand Tour Desjardins will be in for a special treat next August 2-8.

The Grand Tour – which may be the biggest multi-day mass participation event in Canada – will start and end in Hamilton, rolling through the Niagara Peninsula and touch on the shores of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

There can be little doubt that the cyclists will be ready for some vino at the end of each day. Make that lots of vino and VQ is promising lunch stops in some of the dozens of vineyards along the way. A booze tent is erected at each stop for the night along the way

Plans for the Grand Tour, the 21st by Vélo-Québec, were emailed yesterday and details will be posted on the web site (veloquebecvoyages.com) Dec. 20.

I have hiked and biked through Nepal, Cuba and Mexico. I also maintain a busy schedule of adventure traveling in Canada. Many stories in the blog were originally published in the Travel Section of The Montreal Gazette. My web site is: https://davestravelsblog.wordpress.com
